ISTE NETS Essential Conditions Reflection

ISTE NETS Essential Conditions
(Elementary School)
Shared Vision
  • Approaches-Our school has a well laid out plan with our school improvement plan of how to implement technology into the classroom, but there are not many evidences from staff showing that this is being done.  A project here and there just to say that we are using technology is what you see.
Access
  • Approaches-We just recently got access for all teachers to have an iPad in their classroom. We have one smart board that is mainly used by our fifth grade classes; mainly because there are only a few people that know how to use it. Ipods were being used for various things in the building, but now I guess we have moved on to BIGGER things.
Skilled Educators
  • Meets-All of staff have been trained in how to use various technology means to enhance our children and staff. Monthly tech trainings helped with that.
Professional Development
  • Meets-Monthly tech trainings and weekly needs trainings help staff acquire skills and access to resources that could help in their classrooms. These trainings were on-school grounds.
Technical Assistance
  • Approaches-We are still at a beginning stage when it comes to trouble-shooting. We fill out a ticket and it is sent downtown for assistance. This may take 1 hour to 1 or 2 days.
Content Standards and Curriculum Resources
  • Initiates-We as a staff are just getting adapted to the technology because we have been so limited in the past. Our facilitator is very knowledgeable about the standards, but not the staff. This is a big area of concern.
Student-Centered Teaching
  • Approaches-Many are working on not being the center of attention in the classroom. With increasing technology being readily available, our school is focusing more on the students teaching each other than the teacher.
Assessment
  • Initiates-Testing is the key word for all grade levels, but our facilitator is working hard to expose students to more assessments on technology since our EOGs are moving towards these goals.
Community Support
  • Approaches-Paperless is what everyone wants and says. We as a school are working towards this goal this year with trying to use email more. The community is behind us all the way but involving the community more with technology resources and uses are goals of the school also.
Support Policies
  • Initiates-Everyone see the policies of technology, but I’m not sure everyone truly understands them. Integration of technology into classroom is a goal but it still seems to be a reward not a tool for learning. We are working towards to incorporate more technology projects, but some staff is hesitant due to children ages.
